A.V. Skizhenok. The Spiritual Regulations of 1721 as a monument of historiosophical Thought and ideological doctrine.
The Ecclesiastical Regulations of 1721 are one of the most striking monuments of the historiosophical and political thought of the outstanding church and statesman of the era of Peter the Great’s reforms, Feofan (Prokopovich). The practical result of its signing was the creation of the Holy Synod, which had a huge impact on the subsequent history of the church, state and society. The high importance of the Holy Synod as an organ of church and state administration in the later history of Russia forces historians to focus on the practical provisions of the Spiritual Regulations and less often explore its theological, symbolic, and theoretical content. At the same time, some of the ideas expressed by Feofan (Prokopovich) within the framework of the Spiritual Regulations deserve special attention as a monument of spiritual, political and historiosophical thought.
