The article analyzes the changes in the content of historical education in the standards and programs of modern Russia. It examines the approaches to selecting the content of history courses in school textbooks in accordance with the requirements of educational standards and programs. The article provides methodological recommendations for practicing teachers on implementing the content of education in teaching history. The article concludes that it is important to take a systematic approach to selecting the content of a subject, starting from the project level and moving to the level of educational material, and then to the level of learning and academic work of schoolchildren.

The article-presentation briefly presents the contents of the monograph devoted to current issues of the theory and practice of historical education of schoolchildren in contemporary Russia, and the scientific novelty of this book. The professional team of authors substantiated the scientific — methodical approaches to solving the key tasks of modernizing the system of common historical education, caused by fundamental challenges to the world, school and man in the 21st century, and illustrated them with examples from their own practice of preparing educational programs and history textbooks, organizing in-class and extracurricular activities of schoolchildren, advanced training courses for teachers, etc.

O.D. Fedorov. A Missed Turn In Educational Policy: The Activities Of The Pedagogical Society At The Moscow University (end of the 19th — beginning of the 20th centuries).
The article examines the activities of the Pedagogical Society at the Moscow University as an example of a sustainable form of civic participation in the educational policy in Russian Empire. Based on an analysis of the organizational structure, expert and educational activities of the society, as well as its interaction with government bodies, the article demonstrates the potential of professional communities in developing and promoting educational initiatives. Special attention is paid to the society’s participation in the discussion of secondary school reforms, the introduction of visual teaching methods, and the development of excursions as an element of educational practice. The closure of the society in 1907 is viewed as a symptom of the political conflict between the state and the emerging civil society. The author suggests interpreting the Society’s activities as one of the alternative but unrealized paths for the development of Russia’s educational policy at the turn of the century.

I.S. Mokshina. The role of the traveling editorial offices of «Komsomolskaya Pravda» in mobilizing youth to restore the economy of the liberated regions of the country (1943-1945).
The victory over fascism was won not only on the battlefields, but also in the spiritual sphere. Considerable merit in this belonged to the youth press, which acted as the most important means of patriotic education of young people, mobilizing them to fight the enemy. Youth journalism is a valuable source for studying the labor and patriotic achievements of the youth of the Soviet hinterland. The experience of the youth periodicals of the war years, due to the richness of the content, the variety of forms and methods of work, and its high efficiency, has not lost its significance in our days.

The article examines methodological approaches to the use of historical sources in working with schoolchildren. The author identifies three possible goals for attracting historical sources, each of which determines its own models for selecting sources, as well as principles for working with them.

The article talks about the new discipline «Basics of Russian statehood». The textbooks and manuals on the Basics of Russian statehood currently available to teachers and students are described. Using the topic «Fundamentals of the Constitutional System» as an example, it is explained why the game form of consolidating the material is important for yesterday’s schoolchildren and now students. The analysis of the approbation of the quiz tasks is given as the example of the participation of students of the historical, linguistic, and psychological faculties.

N.V. Ostanina. The lessons of Auschwitz in the context of understanding the problem of dehumanization of personality.
The article analyzes the problem of dehumanization of personality, which begins from the moment Hitler came to power, continues along the path of a person’s journey to the death camp and during his stay there. The analysis of the memories of people who survived the death camp, paintings and photographic documents of the era allow students to understand the lessons of Auschwitz in the context of understanding this problem.

Young scientists’ works
M.O. Tarasov. The Kaluga House of Diligence and its Significance in the Social Policy of the Kaluga Province in the 19th and Early 20th Centuries (Based on Local Periodical Press Materials).
The article is devoted to the history and development of the Kaluga House of Diligence under the management of a local Women’s charitable society. As a source, the author uses the local periodical press, which captured the main stages of the development of the House of Diligence. The author also examines the activities of the Women’s Charity Society in the context of social support mechanisms for vulnerable segments of the population. It is noted that the main benefactors were representatives of the Kaluga aristocracy and representatives of the merchant class. The main forms of charity events were various evenings organized by the Women’s Charity Society, as well as bazaars organized in support of the Kaluga House of Diligence. During the period of its existence, the House of Diligence has constantly developed, improving the education system of its wards, gradually improving their living conditions. As a result, the author comes to the conclusion that such a mechanism of social support was quite effective.

N.A. Zadoya. The War in Afghanistan (1979-1989) through the Lens of Soviet Mass Media.
The article analyzes issues of Soviet newspapers (Izvestia, Komsomolskaya Pravda, and Krasnaya Zvezda) that mentioned Afghanistan and the limited presence of Soviet troops there. Based on a study of official Soviet media during the Afghan War of 1979-1989, the article identifies the main mechanisms of public opinion formation, as well as the specific features of each publication.
