Actual theme: Khabarovsk process 1949: historical significance and contemporary challenges

O.Yu. Strelova. Khabarovsk Process in 1949: potential of the historic event in school humanitarian education and professional development of teachers.
The social-pedagogical aspects of the program and the resolution of the international forum «Khabarovsk Process: Historical Significance and Modern Challenges» are analyzed as prerequisites for the professional development of humanities teachers and creation of a thematic issue of the journal «Teaching History at School». A program has been outlined for its use in educational and methodological work with schoolchildren and teachers.

S.V. Slivko. The Khabarovsk Trial of 1949 in Soviet and American Press Coverage.
The article is devoted to the reflection of the Khabarovsk trial over Japanese war criminals in the Soviet and American periodicals of 1949-1950. It identifies various approaches to the coverage of the Khabarovsk trial, examines the methods of forming public opinion about the trial, examines the information context, which includes materials about the trial of Japanese war criminals, analyzes the composition of publications and reveals the degree of their reliability in covering the process and its content.

A.V. Samokhin. Detachment № 100 and bacteriological warfare against the USSR: based on the materials of the Khabarovsk trial.
In the article, based on the materials of the trial that took place in december 1949, the author examines the activities of the detachment № 100 of the Kwantung army. There are practically no publications on this topic in Russian historiography. Nevertheless, the activities of this division of the Kwantung army in preparing for bacteriological warfare seem to be no less important than the activities of detachment № 731.

The article examines unique documentary materials from the funds of the State Archives of the Khabarovsk Territory, dedicated to the Khabarovsk trial of 1949 over Japanese war criminals and related thems.

T.V. Kirpichenko. Detachment № 731: Review of nonfiction and scientific literature.
The article introduces the literature on the end of World war II on the territory of the Soviet Far East, the defeat of the Kwantung army, the surrender of Japan and the 1949 trial that took place in Khabarovsk over Japanese war criminals who were developing bacteriological weapons.

A.N. Averina. The topic of the Khabarovsk trial in the museum space.
The article analyzes the practice of presenting events in the Far East in August 1945 in federal and regional museums of Russia, formulates the reasons for the absence of the topic «Khabarovsk process of 1949» in the modern museum space, identifies the problems of its museification, including psychological and pedagogical character.

L.V. Korneva. Detachment № 731 Crime Museum — Harbin’s Saddest Museum: impressions of a person and a museum expert.
The author of the article shares her impressions of her participation in the international Forum «Russian-Chinese red tourism and the repeated return of Russian immigrants and their descendants to their second homeland, Heilongjiang province» (october 2015), within which, under the program of «red tourism», a visit to the museum «Detachment 731» took place.

M.I. Romanova. The filmimage of the War in the Pacific ocean and problem of formation of the young generation historical memory about the Second world war.
The article is devoted to the problems of the formation of historical memory of the Second World War in the modern generation. These problems are largely determined by the fact that young people have lost communication with this event due to its remoteness in time. It is perceived as a mythologized and modernized image of historical memory. Cinema plays an important role in shaping this image. Using the example of films dedicated to the war in the Pacific, an attempt is made to show how cinema transforms the perception of the image of war in the minds of the younger generation.

A.P. Lavrentsov. Notes of a local historian.
The article reconstructs the history of Detachment № 731, reveals the circumstances of the preparation and conduct of trials in Tokyo and Khabarovsk, traces the fate of convicted and subsequently pardoned Japanese criminals, raises the question of the attitude of modern Japan to the development and testing of bacteriological weapons on people during the Second world war.

Methodic

V.O. Melnyk, M.N. Golovina. The Khabarovsk trial 1949 in the mirror of international humanitarian law (the reflection lesson).
The article describes a creative approach to the study of the Khabarovsk trial
in 1949 in the context of the system-activity approach to the study of social science and history. Students, working in expert groups, analyze historical documents and the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949. Students also define the meaning of referring to past events in the modern world.

E.A. Slivko. «My crimes were directed against humanity»: a documentary-methodical complex.
The author of the article has developed a set of questions and tasks for the analysis of cartoons by V.V. Pavchinsky as a source on the history of the Khabarovsk trial in 1949 and a discussion about its moral lessons for the present.

The article discusses the experience of pedagogical support of educational information and creative project, dedicated to the events of the Khabarovsk trial of 1949. The author characterizes the goals, objectives, planned results, stages of work on the project, pays special attention to the independent work of students, the role of the teacher and understanding the results of project activities.

A.S. Perfileva. From the monument to the memory (quest motivator).
The quest is aimed at introducing high school students to the study of the local fact of history and culture, but in the context of the history of Russia and international relations of the second half of the XX — early XXI centuries; comments and recommendations were made by the author of the quest during the process of its approbation and adjustment.

S. Kostyuk, J.B. Kiryanova. The Khabarovsk trial of 1949: a view from 2021 (сollective creative project: from concept to implementation).
A high school student and teacher of the school 3 pos. The choir described the diverse experience of immersing schoolchildren in the history of the Khabarovsk trial of 1949, acquaintance with the places of memory of him, including on the territory of their village, and the theatrical performance that followed. In a creative project, the reconstruction of a historical event is combined with the reflections of 21st century schoolchildren about it.
